Polyvinylchloride (PVC) is an economical and sturdy material that is suitable for many of our customers’ applications, especially average woodworking and dust collector applications. PVC is a thermoplastic material that is low cost and extremely ductile, which means Wynn Environmental can provide clear PVC flex hoses at prices that edge out those of the competition.

PVC is a naturally hard plastic that can be made soft and malleable for flex duct purposes by the addition of a plasticizer. Wynn Environmental provides clear PVC flex hose with a wire-reinforced helix, which provides shape-stability and durability while being used or transported. Many of our customers have inquired as to the smoothness of our bore: all PVC flex ducts offered by Wynn Environmental are what is considered to be "smooth bore hose." Corrugated, wire-reinforced flexible ducts, by their nature, have "bumps," however, in comparison to other materials used to make flex hoses, our PVC bore is extremely smooth which minimizes loss of friction. Urethane that is acceptable for flexible hoses and ducts is made by a specific chemical reaction which results in a dense, sturdy, and bendable material. Urethane flex ducts and hoses are resistant to puncturing and dragging damage in part due to the wire-reinforced helix, and are also resistant to abrasion or degradation by oil, chemicals, and moisture. Because of urethane’s more complex synthesis process, the material is inherently more expensive than PVC but is also suitable for applications that PVC is not. The standard form is 20 mils thick and is ideal for oil mist and light material conveyance due to its elastic yet durable nature.
