Filter Kit for Harbor
Freight, Jet, Delta, Grizzly, Shop Fox, General, Wood Tek, and Penn
State. |

We've recently developed a pair of new filters,
built specifically for use on bag-type dust collectors. Based on
our success with the 9E and 28B series
filters, (and due to many
requests from the public), we decided to offer a larger diameter
filter. This larger diameter normally allows the filter to be installed
without the need for a mounting donut. The larger diameter also
improves cleanability, due to the wider pleat spacing.

Note that there are several different basic styles of dust collector
being manufactured out there. They all look pretty much the same,
but there are subtle differences in the diameter of the rim, and the
size and shape of the orifice plate (separation ring, cone). We
are slowly accumulating a database of the different variations, and have
listed our notes on a separate page. Click here
for our Application Notes, to see if we have
your model listed.

Which filter should you use? Well,
it depends on how much wood you process, the type of wood, and how much fine
dust you produce. They are both good filters, and are pretty evenly matched regarding flow and pressure drop. The Spunbond is the technically "correct" filter to use on wood dust, because it will handle fibers. Over the years, however, we have proven that the
80/20 blend "paper" filter works very well. The paper filter is slightly more efficient, and
is a bit less expensive, but you can't wash it. The Spun Bond media is rated at 380 psi burst strength, wet or dry;
whereas the 80/20 blend paper is 45 psi dry, and only 25 wet.
Both are easily cleaned from the outside with compressed air (leave the filter and bag in place), or they can be vacuumed from the inside with a
shopvac.
Our recommendation? The Spun Bond is a better filter...it's basically a lifetime
filter. For the hobbyist, however, the 80/20 blend is such an improvement
over bags, it's really hard to pass up. Hey, we like them both!

for his input and support with this project.
Bill has has worked tirelessly to inform the public about the importance of air quality in the
home wood shop, and anyone working with wood should familiarize themselves with
his work. Bill's website is full of valuable information on hobbyist dust collection, and can be found here:
